GroundGrabba - Different Types of Environment - Rocky and Hard Ground

When it comes to exploring the outdoors, camping in the wilds and spending time off the beaten path, there are multiple environments and ground substrates you can encounter - and understanding them is key to a successful trip full of good experience and memories. In this article we want to talk about the different types, what makes them special and how to deal with them.

Rocky and Hard Ground Anchoring

When you are planning a trip and one of the places you want to set up camp is a rocky or very hard ground then being prepared is key. Trying to set up anchors in literal stone is a different kind of beast and requires the right tools and equipment. The old stakes that you hammer in is never going to work. You need a cordless battery drill and a masonry bit to drill a pilot hole for your GroundGrabba anchor. And once it is in, you can rest assured that your equipment is going nowhere.

As GroundGrabba Pro, Pro I and Pro II are made of heat treated galvanized steel, they are super tough. Something that is extremely important when you try to get a good ground anchor in very hard, rocky ground. GroundGrabba provides a massive grip and unrivaled strength when holding your tents, gear, pets and canopies. Of course, we cannot do the impossible and penetrate rock or work around large obstructions so sometimes you'll need to improvise in a way only campers know how.

While the GroundGrabba Pro is perfectly capable to be driven into solid ground, we recommend to drill a pilot hole when you encounter especially tough substrate. This makes the insertion of you anchor easier, whenever the ground is very dense or compacted. A GroundGrabba Pro that is drilled into a pilot hole will provide grip like you never experienced before. Use GroundGrabba Pro I or Pro II for less stable substrate like sand or clay.

A huge advantage of GroundGrabba over any other method is how easy they can be inserted and removed from the ground. On hard substrate it is already quite a challenge to get a traditional tent stake in, but the real work starts when it's time to taking them out again. There are a lot of tiring methods, from trying to dig them out to the attempt of pulling them out with you car. But with some GroundGrabbas, a battery powered drill and our hex socket driver your camp will be set up in minutes and packed up just as quick. Even on the hardest ground you ever camped on.

Our GroundGrabba Pro line offers incredible individual strengths beyond what you have encountered so far. Heavy duty screw-in stakes drilled in by a battery powered drill are superior in every way. They come with flights at the bottom to cut into the ground and grip whatever substrate they encounter on their way.

Of course it is always a good idea to do some research about the environment that you are heading into. But experience shows that there is only so much you can do to be prepared and there will always be things that were not accounted for. GroundGrabba stakes are versatile and work in many different environments. An amazing addition to every kit of multi-purpose supplies adventure kit!

Old Hammer-In Stakes

The age old stakes that you painstakingly hammer into the ground just don't hold your tents, shade structures, easy ups or canopies at all. Especially in rocky ground, that is why having a set of GroundGrabbas with you will benefit you in these conditions. The hardened steel strength works perfectly in the most rugged conditions and the spirals provide them with immense staying power, unlike old stakes with smooth edges. Once you experienced the difference of what real rocky and hard ground anchors can do, you will never want to go back. And it is a very good feeling to have absolute certainty that your ground anchors are keeping all of your equipment exactly where you want it to be.
