Diesel exhaust fluid is one of the key elements of the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) process used by most medium and heavy-duty engine builders to meet EPA 2010 regulations. DEF is a mixture of synthetic urea and water that is added to diesel exhaust systems to lower or remove toxic nitrogen oxide emissions. It is nontoxic but will freeze in temperatures under 12 °F and can corrode aluminum or carbon steel containers if transferred or stored improperly. It is recommended to keep your DEF fluid in its original container.
