Loctite

Loctite is the default name in threadlockers, gasket makers, and thread sealants for anyone doing maintenance or assembly work — the anaerobic adhesive standard that shops reach for by brand name the way they reach for a specific wrench. That same chemistry also shows up on consumer shelves as Super Glue, making Loctite one of the few industrial brands people recognize from both sides of the counter.

It started in the 1950s with Vernon Krieble, a retired chemistry professor, and his son Robert, who set out to solve a mechanical problem — loosening fasteners — with a non-mechanical fix: an adhesive that cures only when squeezed between metal and cut off from air. Within a decade it was the industry standard. Henkel acquired Loctite outright in 1997, and it's now Henkel's largest brand, used across roughly 800 industries.
