Brembo

Formula 1 championships have been won on Brembo brakes for decades, and the aluminum monobloc calipers that made that possible eventually trickled down into high-performance road cars too. Its DOT 4 racing fluids — EVO Sport 500++, HTC64, LCF 600+ — are built on the same low-compressibility, high-temperature chemistry that keeps its calipers consistent lap after lap.

The company started small: a family workshop in Paladina, Italy, founded in 1961 by Emilio Bombassei, his sons Sergio and Alberto, and brother-in-law Italo Breda. Its shift into brakes came almost by accident, when a 1964 truck crash damaged a shipment of discs bound for Alfa Romeo and Brembo offered to manufacture the replacements itself. Alfa Romeo said yes, and by 1975 Enzo Ferrari had brought Brembo into Formula 1.
