AP Racing Radi-CAL Brakes Back 406-MPH Hydrogen Land Speed Record at Bonneville
Source: The BRAKE Report / AP Racing Newsroom, August 11, 2026.
On August 11, 2026, the JCB Hydromax set a new FIA world land speed record for a hydrogen-powered vehicle at Bonneville Speed Week, averaging 406.320 mph over the measured mile. Wing Commander Andy Green piloted the 2.5-tonne, 1,600-hp streamliner. The braking system was supplied by AP Racing, whose hardware worked in tandem with twin parachutes to bring the vehicle back to a safe stop after each record run.
For a shop or fleet buyer, that context matters in a specific way. A 2.5-tonne vehicle at 406 mph generates braking loads that are essentially unquantifiable in everyday terms. What it confirms is that the AP Racing Radi-CAL brake fluid specification was engineered for scenarios where fluid compressibility, vapor lock threshold, and wet boiling point are not marketing copy items but structural constraints on whether the system functions at all. The same performance ceiling is what makes this fluid relevant to any application where heat soak, repeated hard stops, or high-ambient-temperature operation is a routine condition rather than an edge case.
AP Racing AP600 (Radi-CAL R2) Racing Brake Fluid
Bulk55 stocks the AP Racing AP600 Radi-CAL R2 Racing Brake Fluid in a case of 20 x 0.5L bottles at $479.80 per case. The Radi-CAL R2 designation places this at the upper tier of AP Racing's fluid line, formulated for applications where a standard DOT 4 fluid's boiling point margin is insufficient.
Key purchasing considerations for commercial accounts:
- Case format. Twenty 0.5L bottles per case gives a shop granular control over dispensing and reduces waste compared to bulk fluid for a product that is moisture-sensitive once opened.
- Vendor consistency. AP Racing is a single-source supplier for both the caliper hardware and the fluid specification, which eliminates compatibility ambiguity when stocking a race team or high-performance service bay.
- Application fit. This fluid is appropriate for track-day and competition vehicles where repeated, high-energy braking events are expected. It is not the right choice for standard street fleet use where a conventional DOT 3 or DOT 4 fluid and its service interval are more cost-effective.
Bulk55 also stocks the AP Racing AP551 Radi-CAL R1 (same 20 x 0.5L case format, $459.80) for applications where the R2 specification exceeds the requirement.
